'Star Wars' Is Coming To 'Dungeons & Dragons'

D&D had some huge announcements at Gen Con this year, but the most surprising should likely be seen as their upcoming collaboration with Star Wars!
Alongside reveals of ongoing improvement and expansions to existing content that work to make D&D a better experience, as well as a major collaboration with Microsoft on the World of Warcraft IP, the game system’s roadmap revealed their upcoming use of the Star Wars IP in some form in 2027. For now, that is all the news fans have, but a lot of reasonable speculation can be made with the details just announced for the World of Warcraft collaboration to inform what we might see with the Star Wars partnership.
The World of Warcraft crossover is an extensive reskinning of existing D&D material, with some new elements, creating a tabletop roleplaying system set in the world of Azeroth. Various playable races, classes and more from Warcraft were highlighted in the announcement, and it seems very likely Star Wars would get the same treatment.
We’d probably be looking at players being able to choose from perhaps a dozen or so species known to the Star Wars galaxy, alongside several professions as classes, before a range of abilities and more help augment characters. Jedi, Dark Side Acolytes, and hopefully even Nightsisters could help serve as the “magic users” in this setting. Azerorth’s world is getting “7 iconic World of Warcraft dungeons reimagined for tabletop play, with boss encounters worthy of the legends,” so Star Wars may see major battle scenes from various films recreated for players to engage with.
Star Wars has been sorely lacking in the RPG department, as Fantasy Flight’s roleplaying system (transferred to the company Edge Studio), hasn’t seen major content in several years. While the existing game system is still supported by Edge Studio, D&D’s reskin into a Star Wars theme should be a fun experience for tabletop roleplayers if done thoroughly and thoughtfully.
