New Revisions For Xbox Consoles Will Be Launching Next Year, According To FTC Documents

A lot of unredacted documents have been leaked relating to the Federal Trade Commission’s case against Microsoft’s merger with Activision Blizzard. Such unredacted documents have revealed a lot of Microsoft’s plans, including revisions for the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and the Xbox Series controller. The largest of those revisions comes with the Xbox Series X, which will have a new cylindrical case with this mid-gen refresh codenamed Brooklin. There will be no disc drive on the case as Microsoft drops physical media with its more powerful console. To counter that, this mid-gen refresh will come to 2TB of storage. The refresh of the Xbox Series S, codenamed Ellewood, will keep the same look, but come with 1TB of storage just like the black Series S that was released earlier this month.
Both revisions will improve their Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities to reduce latency and signal interference. Both will also come with a USB-C port on the front. Sustainability is also a big factor with these revisions, with a new low-power standby mode that reduces power consumption by 20% of the standard Series S model. Both are said to use more than 30% of Post-Consumer Recycled resins in the design, along with 100% recyclable packaging. Brooklin will also draw 15% less power overall than a standard Series X.

The new controller, codenamed Sebile, is shown with a two-tone black-and-white finish. The controller will feature more durable modular thumbsticks as well as quieter buttons and thumbsticks. Also included will be precision haptic feedback, VCA haptics that double as speakers, and improvements to its wireless capabilities that should allow it to work better with cloud gaming devices along with Xbox consoles. A unique feature of this controller is the accelerometer which allows it to wake up and connect to a device just by lifting it. Sustainability is also a focus with the controller, which is made with recycled materials, and features a rechargeable and swappable battery, along with being easy to disassemble and repair.
According to the unredacted document, the Sebile controller will be released first in June 2024, with the Ellewood console following in September 2024 and Brooklin in November 2024. These new revisions will supposedly be released at the same price the current versions are available at. Bear in mind, that these plans were from 2022, so things could have changed since that time.
