The Mandalorian is credited for its exceptional world-building as the series brought several new planets to life. Planets like Nevarro, Trask, Arvala-7, Morak, Tython, Adelphi, Maldo Kreis, and Corvus were all introduced in live-action thanks to the series. These interesting locations are just a few of the many worlds from the show, and now, The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to introduce a new planet called Shakari. Shakari is a planet that fans have already seen in the various teasers and trailers of the movie. It is where Din Djarin and Grogu will meet the Ardennian shopkeeper, played by the legend, Martin Scorsese.
Details about Shakari at a press preview event, where Lucasfilm shared details about this crucial new location. Production designer Andrew L. Jones exclusively revealed that Shakari is inspired by Prohibition-era Chicago. It’s a crime-ridden planet, overrun by city life, gangsters, and a high rate of crime. He also revealed that it’s always raining on Shakari, which can be seen when Mando steps into a puddle of water in one of the trailers. To pay homage to the 1920s Chicago vibe, the team designed a new blaster inspired by the Tommy gun, which was most popular at the time. Additionally, Martin Scorsese’s unnamed new character operates a food truck on Shakari. Although not much else is known about the role this planet will play in the movie, considering the effort thatFavreau, Andrew L. Jones, and the entire production team put into Shakari, it will likely be pivotal to events in the film. The Mandalorian and Grogu will release in theaters on May 22.
