Jon Favreau has finally revealed what The Mandalorian Season 4 would have focused on. Favreau confirmed that the scripts for Season 4 were already written and were completely different from the upcoming movie. The long-running rumor that Season 4 was slimmed down and turned into a movie is false, as Favreau revealed he wrote the movie’s script from scratch. The very idea of taking the scripts for a season of television and turning them into a movie is one he believes isn’t possible. He told SFX Magazine, "You can't just take those scripts and turn them into a movie.” This isn’t all, the Mandalorian and Grogu director said, “There were a lot of characters, it assumed you'd watched the whole show, and it was teeing up what was happening moving into thesecond season of Ahsoka. It was about Grand Admiral Thrawn and following the larger storyline of this era of the Star Wars timeline.”
Favreau says, “I had to start from scratch, essentially,” but "As long as you understand the archetypes of this hardened warrior with their vulnerable young apprentice, you’ll know these characters well, even if you've never seen the show. But there's still a lot of Star Wars in there.” He says it still works well as a standalone movie, but emphasizes that it is very much a movie, and not a 2-hour-long episode of the show. He understands that fans have very high expectations and knows some doubters think this will be just another episode or the fourth season. For the doubters, he has one message: "You really want to pull out all the stops, because people are asking, ‘Okay, is this just the TV show on the big screen?’ Well, there’s only one way to answer that question, and that’s to sit in a movie theater and watch it. I have to make my case that we made the most of this opportunity." The Mandalorian and Grogu will release in theaters and IMAX on May 22.
