Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Nicholas Brendon has passed away at the age of 54. He played Xander Harris on the hit show for all seven seasons.

While Buffy was his most notable role, he also appeared in various films and television roles throughout his career, up until 2021. When he took breaks from Buffy, he starred in films like Unholy and Demon Island. In 2000, he starred alongside Lauren Ambrose and Amy Adams in Psycho Beach Party, which was a Sundance entry. Prominent TV roles included a recurring role on Criminal Minds and Kitchen Confidential, which was a one-season Fox sitcom.

In 2023, Brendon revealed that he had suffered a heart attack and had been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. He also had cauda equina syndrome, which led to many spinal surgeries. While in his 30s, he started to struggle with substance abuse and mental illness. He was arrested multiple times and faced charges of felony vandalism, resisting or obstructing officers, criminal mischief, and felony corporal injury to a spouse. The latter and his most notable ended in a plea deal, which included 3 years' probation..

Those who knew him were optimistic about his recent outlook and attitude and hoped he had finally turned a corner. He is survived by his identical twin brother, Kelly Donovan, and they were born three minutes apart. They even appeared in two episodes of Buffy together.
