Nicole Maines Will Return As Dreamer For An Appearance In The Final Season Of The CW's 'The Flash'

As The Flash enters its final season, it’s doing so with the weight of closing down the entirety of the Earth-Prime portion of the Arrowverse. Within it are characters who could probably use a little more growth or more resolution to their stories. However, this one is a little more personal for showrunner Eric Wallace, as he looks to do things he hadn’t quite gotten to do in his three previous seasons in the role.

Supergirl’s Nicole Maines will be reprising her role as Nia Nal aka Dreamer in one of the upcoming ninth-season episodes. However, it seems that teaming up with Barry isn’t the priority here. Instead, she’ll be teaming up with Iris (played by Candice Patton) to investigate their own “very bizarre and frightening” mystery. Having an Arrowverse-original superhero be part of this farewell serves greatly, especially as the first trans superhero in all of television. This was apparently on Wallace’s “Arrowverse Bucket List” team-ups, rooting such in their journalism prowess which he calls “fantastic”. It’s probably best not to read into the statement as some sort of slight against Kara, but it does make one wonder whether Melissa Benoist’s availability is a factor due to the production of The Girls on the Bus for HBO Max.

Since the end of Supergirl last November, Chyler Leigh reprised her role as Alex Danvers during multiple parts of “Armageddon”, however in the proper timeline she was only spoken to for information over a video call, so more personal interactions are very good news. Having only 13 episodes in this final season, her involvement being a one-off story seems obvious, but it’s still a very much welcome story. After all, there are probably more guests to come. The Flash’s final season begins February 8 on The CW.
