James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) is going strong through its opening weekend. At the time of writing this, the film has grossed $88 million domestically and $257 million internationally, bringing the total to $345 million. According to Deadline, the film’s pre-release revenue projection sat between $340-$380 million for its opening weekend; the lower end has been firmly achieved thanks to the boost from international revenue. While that is lower than the maximum projections floated before release, this is still a sizable opening revenue. As a holiday weekend is approaching, it has plenty of potential to grow.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) had an opening weekend revenue of $435 million, with $301 million coming from overseas. Avatar (2009) had a worldwide opening of $232.2 million, $159.2 million coming from the global market. Both films have been re-released in theaters as well, boosting overall revenue. They are among the highest-grossing films of all time, ranking first and third, respectively. Fire and Ash (2025) has the potential to inch onto the list as well, so long as momentum continues steadily.
