San Diego Comic-Con is a funny time for those in the fandom world. This year it doesn’t necessarily hold the same cache thanks to the big-name studios failing to represent, along with the impact of the ongoing Hollywood strikes. Studios will use this event to send out their little sneak peeks just to stay ahead of the curve. Paramount+ came out this weekend saying they were excited to showcase some great spooky season releases during the month of October which will be tent poled by a prequel to Stephen King’s iconic and self-proclaimed, “scariest property of all-time”, Pet Semetary: Bloodlines.

The studio synonymous with Star Trek released some production photos and a release date for the film. It takes place in 1969 and features the back story of Jud Crandall, who was played by the iconic Fred Gwynne in the 1989 movie and John Lithgow in the 2019 remake. If you recall, Jud was the neighbour to the family at the centre of the book and was the one who was the keeper of the darkly held secret which was the cemetery that could reverse death itself and was ironically what led to his ultimate demise.

In this prequel, Paramount tells us, “The film follows a young Jud Crandall in 1969, who has dreams of leaving his hometown behind but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever keep him connected to the town. Banding together, Jud and his childhood friends must fight an ancient evil that has gripped Ludlow since its founding and, once unearthed, has the power to destroy everything in its path.”

In this prequel, Jud will now be played by Jackson White (Ambulance and Tell Me Lies) and is the son of Katey Sagal (Married With Children, Sons Of Anarchy). It is also helmed by first-time director Lindsey Beer who is attached to some great upcoming projects as a screenwriter like Disney’s live-action Bambi and the oft-talked-about Star Trek 4. In addition to newcomers White and Beer, some old genre favourites like David Duchovny, Pam Grier, and Henry Thomas will all be in the series.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines releases on October 6.
