Star Wars has a modest presence at San Diego Comic-Con this year, with Friday, July 25th seeing two panels discussing the franchise’s publishing work. CultureSlate has your roundup for the most important new reveals and discussions seen at the main Lucasfilm Publishing Panel and the Random House Worlds Star Wars panel.

Both panels featured several authors, editors, and artists going over some of the most recently released work in the world of Star Wars, as well as work releasing during the remainder of 2025. This included the likes of Charles Soule talking about Trials of the Jedi, Tessa Gratton speaking about The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown, and Cavan Scott commenting on his upcoming comic issue entitled “The Finale” which is set to be the last story of The High Republic publishing initiative.

Several books also had their interiors shown off to those in attendance and in coverage afterward. The new Art of behind-the-scenes books for The High Republic and The Acolyte showed development details for various characters with their revealed pages, while an interior look at the upcoming deluxe edition of the novelization of Revenge of the Sith showed the newly added page annotations.

But the biggest news relates to four future releases. First, let's address the Reign of the Empire trilogy. Announced back in 2024, the first novel, The Mask of Fear, was released to rave reviews and significantly positive press by the Star Wars fanbase earlier this year. CultureSlate gave it an incredibly high rating. It will form part of a trilogy of novels, releasing one per year from 2025 to 2027. That is still the plan; however, we now have titles and some adjusted release dates. The second novel, Edge of the Abyss, is due for a Fall 2026 release window, while the third novel, newly titled From the Ashes, will release in Summer 2027.

But the last two announcements are the big ones. After years of waiting, we are finally getting a visual dictionary for The Mandalorian, apparently due for release before the 2026 film. Such a book was meant to be created after The Mandalorian Season 2, but was quietly cancelled, so its return will no doubt bring a lot of valuable and intriguing insights into this era of Star Wars lore. Even if they do not name mysterious characters like The Client, details about Nevarro’s bounty hunters, various clothing, and set elements, and more, should give fans a lot of new information.

Then there is the announcement of Outlaws: Low Red Moon. Taking place before the events of the game Star Wars Outlaws, Low Red Moon focuses on the story of ND-5 and Jaylen Vrax and their rise through the criminal underworld to the status we see them hold in the game. Written by Mike Chen, he posted an insightful behind-the-scenes thread on Bluesky that we encourage fans to seek out if they want more information about the upcoming novel. It is due for release in February of 2026.
