Ever since the character first graced movie screens in 1999, Darth Maul has been popular with Star Wars fans. Even though the script originally implied his death, the character was later revived for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, and also appeared in Solo. The character will now star in his own animated show, Maul: Shadowhunter, where Sam Witwer, who voiced the character in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, will reprise his role.

Witwer recently talked about the character, and when asked why he was loyal to Palpatine, someone who never showed him any loyalty, or even much respect, said the following. “These are the types of questions that I have been asking for years, and in this show, we get to create stories about them. I mean, not flashbacks – we don't literally tell these stories, but there are aspects of that character that have not been explored, traits that that character has that people wouldn't think he has, because he's different than Palpatine.”

The show is currently scheduled for release in 2026. Witwer has also done voices of The Son in the Mortis arc of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Palpatine in various works, and Starkiller in The Force Unleashed.
