One of the biggest honors a football player can get outside of any awards for on-field play is getting a spot on the cover of Madden. From one-hit wonders to first-ballot Hall of Fame legends, the cover athlete of Madden is a high honor given to the latest season’s iconic player. Usually, you can tell by the season’s end the shortlist of nominees, but with a Super Bowl ring to cap off a historic 2000+ yard rushing season, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was the easy choice. In talking about the honor, Barkley said:
"When you get the call, you don't know what to expect, right? And they ask you, 'Do you want to be part of the Madden cover?' I don't know if anyone's turned that down. I definitely wasn't gonna turn that down, the opportunity. I know so many people, so many kids that dream and would love to be in the position I am right now. I remember as a kid wanting to be part of the Madden cover. There have been so many players that have been part of the Madden cover. Now to be mentioned and have my name attached with those guys, words really can't describe it."

Barkley should be proud of getting the cover athlete. Only a small handful of players have reached 2000+ yards in a season, so he was an easy choice. Hopefully, he doesn’t fall victim to the “Madden Curse” during the 2025 season.
And, as a Broncos fan, hopefully Bo Nix, PS2, or any of the other Broncos crushes it enough this year to get a spot on the 2027 cover!
