From now on, Jigsaw’s squeaky wheels will be echoing through the halls of another studio as Blumhouse has acquired the rights to the infamous Saw franchise. Blumhouse has become a household name for horror fanatics, with smash hits such as M3GAN and Insidious. This will not be the studio’s first foray into adapting an already beloved franchise, as they rebooted Halloween back in 2018 to great success. Similar to that series’ reboot, any future projects will be overseen by a veteran of the franchise.

Back in 2024, Blumhouse merged with James Wan’s Atomic Monster label. This company produced hits of their own, including Get Out, The Purge, and Annabelle. This merger means that Wan, who directed the first Saw movie, will have oversight of the franchise going forward. Speaking on the acquisition, Wan stated, “‘Saw’ holds a special place in my heart. Coming back to this world with a fresh perspective is both thrilling and deeply personal. For me, this will mark a significant creative return to the ‘Saw’ franchise for the first time since the early days, and I’m very much looking forward to embracing the original spirit whilst pushing the legacy forward in bold, unexpected ways.”

While Blumhouse may have acquired the movie rights, Lionsgate will remain a partner in distribution and hold a 50% ownership of the IP for all future installments. Currently, the amount Blumhouse paid has not been disclosed. As this story is breaking, there is no further news on what the future installments will hold or how Wan plans to have them return to form.
