A big night for sci-fi is coming up in a few months. The Nebula Awards acknowledges and awards the best of science fiction. Andor episode 10, One Way Out, has received a nomination in the category for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation. The full title of the award is the Ray Bradbury Nebula Award for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation.

The entirety of Andor has shown a rougher side to the Rebellion and that particular era of the universe. One Way Out brought a conclusion to the Narkina 5 plotline, exposing the struggle of understaffing in the Empire and showing a tragically beautiful arc for Andy Serkis’s character. The episode wrapped up with Stellan Skarsgård’s character delivering an impassioned speech highlighting his sacrifice for the greater good, not in death but in pouring everything into the cause. Sacrifice was highlighted in unique ways and the gaps in the Empire’s control were exposed, so it is certainly understandable why this episode was nominated.

The Ray Bradbury Nebula Award for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation was first presented in 1992.  In 2009, it replaced the Nebula Award for Best Script after the latter was removed from the ceremony. The purpose of this award is to acknowledge excellence in screenwriting. The nominated episode of Andor has a bit of competition, the other nominees being season 1 of The Sandman, Jordan Peele’s Nope, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Severance.

The 2023 Nebula Awards take place Sunday, May 14, in Anaheim, California. It will be streamed live for the public on the SFWA’s Facebook and YouTube channels. This awards ceremony is embedded into a larger conference for the genre of sci-fi creation.
