Ryan Coogler’s Sinners (2025) has taken the box office by storm in its opening weekend, bringing in over $48 million domestically. The film, starring Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers, has blown past A Minecraft Movie (2025) to take the top spot at the box office. Budget estimates put the film’s production costs at about $90 million, meaning that the opening weekend alone made over half of the expenses back. At the time of writing this, the film has raked in $79.9 million worldwide.
Sinners (2025) has received a lot of attention from those in the industry; most of it has been positive, but one negatively toned comment sparked some discourse. The surface-level issue with Variety’s commentary is its negative tone. The company posted, “‘Sinners’ has amassed $61 million in its global debut. It’s a great result for an original, R-rated horror film, yet the Warner Bros. release has a $90 million price tag before global marketing expenses, so profitability remains a ways away.” As this was the film’s opening weekend, revenue trends should remain fairly high for the next stretch of time if it follows common theater patterns; it will also stay in theaters for a while yet.

Sinners (2025) is a period-piece horror movie created by Ryan Coogler. Set in 1932, the film focuses on veteran twins Smoke and Stack as they return to the Mississippi Delta from working for mobsters in Chicago. The pair, along with a slew of blues musicians and workers, open a juke joint on land purchased from a racist; what seemed like an opportunity for relaxing and fun turns out to be quite the opposite, as the supernatural emerges from the shadows and wreaks havoc on the group. The film will be in theaters for the time being. Once it goes to streaming, it will likely be available on Max.
