Summer Game Fest is here, and with it comes the latest trailer for the upcoming Sonic racing title, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Though the trailer was slightly short and rather fast-paced, there was a lot revealed. Firstly, we got some more looks at the high-speed racing action, including the Extreme Gear gameplay reminiscent of that from the Sonic Riders series. Secondly, it was officially revealed that not only would Sonic characters be appearing in the title, but also SEGA characters as well. Confirmed characters include Hatsune Miku from Vocaloid, Joker from the Persona series, and Ichiban Kasuga from the Yakuza series. It was also revealed that there would be a full-fledged crossover with Minecraft in the game as well. Lastly, it revealed the game’s official release date of September 25th of this year (this may be later for the Nintendo Switch 2, however).

Pre-orders for the title also opened upon the premiere of the trailer, and the prices of the separate editions have the fanbase divided. For the standard digital and physical Nintendo Switch versions, it will cost $59.99. On other platforms (including the Switch 2), the standard physical or digital edition will cost $69.99. There will be a paid upgrade path for those who purchase the original Switch version, however. Digital Deluxe is where things get a bit pricy.

On the original Nintendo Switch, it will be $79.99, but for all other platforms, it will be a staggering $89.99. Included in this edition, however, is the season pass for the DLC, the addition of Sonic Prime characters Rusty Rose, Knuckles the Dread, and Nine, and the ability to play the game three days early (not available on the Switch or Switch 2 editions) in addition to the pre-order bonus of the Werehog character. While this may seem like a lot of content, some fans weren’t particularly happy with the edition’s price point, comparing it to Mario Kart World’s $80 price. Some, however, think the Digital Deluxe Edition’s price is justified given the content it comes with. Despite the mild controversy, it seems there hasn’t been a high hit to sales, as evidenced by it reaching the top 40 sellers on the Steam charts:

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds starts its engines on all platforms on September 25, 2025 (Except for the Nintendo Switch 2, which will have the title released on the system later).
