We have big news. The new Spaceballs movie is set to release next year, on April 23, 2027. Previously announced late last year, director Mel Brooks will be producing this new movie, with Will & Harper’s Josh Greenbaum taking over the director’s chair. The cast includes Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, George Wynder and Daphne Zuniga, Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman and Anthony Carrigan. Gad, Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit will be writing; other producers include Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Jeb Brody, Gad, Greenbaum and Kevin Salter, while the Executive Producers are Adam Merims, Samit, and Hernandez. The production labels involved are Imagine Entertainment, Brooksfilms and Angry Child Productions.

Spaceballs was a parody of Star Wars directed by Mel Brooks and released by MGM. The film followed several plot beats and character archetypes from the films, but uniquely told them. It has been many years since then, and apart from a poorly received animated series, nothing new came from this franchise (despite the film making jokes about merchandising and the possibility of a sequel). It appears that Greenbaum is seeking to bring balance to the Schwartz, or maybe he just got his in a twist. Either way, let’s hope this is more than just The Search For More Money.
