Update On 'Star Wars Eclipse' Paints A Slow Moving Picture

Half a decade after first being announced, Quantic Dream’s Star Wars game Star Wars Eclipse looks increasingly to be mirroring the similarly long-past reveal of The Elder Scrolls VI.
Insider Gaming reports to have a source that says the game is apparently largely completed, but that steady progress has not been made in months. This comes down to the hesitancy of Quantic Dream’s financial backer, NetEase, to provide additional funding for a significant hiring increase, with both companies putting their hopes on the early access Quantic Dream title Spellcasters Chronicles to generate revenue. NetEase may then offer further funding, though Insider Gaming’s source also alluded to the idea that if the game does poorly, NetEase might pull back on future investments entirely.
Star Wars Eclipse is a game purportedly set during the High Republic era of the galaxy far, far away, and when initially announced, saw glowing praise and hype by Lucasfilm and Disney, only to be met with justifiable backlash from The High Republic’s fanbase. To say Quantic Dream has a mixed reputation with certain groups is an understatement, after news reports and lawsuits starting in 2018 claimed that the company’s higher-ups made extremely sexist, racist and homophobic comments, alongside supporting a toxic workplace culture.

Disney and Lucasfilm have been extraordinarily silent on the game since its initial reveal, beyond brief mentions that Eclipse is still an ongoing project. Both companies go unmentioned in this Insider Gaming report, perhaps suggesting they have distanced themselves from the project, or are limiting their involvement to the creative side of the venture, rather than the financial. Regardless of the truth, their silence speaks to the fact that they probably understand the fans this game was aimed at largely do not want Quantic Dream involved in the project.
Unfortunately, they remain involved, and if the game truly is largely completed, it may only take a major cash injection and a short, manic burst of work before we hear more concrete news on this Star Wars gaming project.
