'Steven Universe' To Return With New Spinoff Series

Announced at Annecy, Steven Universe is expanding with a new spin-off series, Lars of the Stars. Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network have said that the new series is currently in development, and will follow the events of Steven Universe and its epilogue series, Steven Universe Future.

There is little known about Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars at present. Series creator Rebecca Sugar and longtime collaborator Ian Jones-Quartey will serve as executive producers. The plot of the series will follow Lars Barriga, who has been through a lot across Steven Universe. A Beach City donut store employee, a brush with death transformed him into a Human-Gem, where he found a crew of Gems and headed for space. Becoming a band of smugglers rebelling against the tyrannical rule of the Gem Empire.

Heading once again into the stars once peace had been found between the Diamonds and Earth, Lars and his crew returned to smuggling. Lars of the Stars will follow the crew in those efforts, as they evade the authorities while uncovering the darkest secrets of the fallen Gem Empire. The adventures of Lars and his crew won’t be found on one of Warner Bros.’ streaming services, but instead will be heading to Amazon Prime Video. Fans are sure to be excited to continue following the adventures within Steven Universe, though it will be some time before more information reveals itself.
