During Star Wars Celebration Japan’s day one, Dark Horse Comics announced that Hisao Tamaki’s manga adaptation of A New Hope will be reprinted in a new artbook The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope - The Manga. The artbook is a celebration of Star Wars’ history with Japanese comics, and will be part of a Kickstarter campaign. The future standard edition of the book will be two volumes that will feature newly acquired scans of Tamaki’s original storyboards and an English-language translation.
The pre-launch page has already been added to the Kickstarter website, and fans can register to be notified when the campaign officially launches. The campaign will give fans the option of two different editions: The Collector’s Edition and The Masterpiece Edition. The Collector’s Edition will be the same as the standard retail release, but will feature Kickstarter-exclusive variant covers. The Masterpiece Edition will be a Kickstarter exclusive and will not only feature a reprinting of Tamaki’s work in two volumes and its original size, but it will also include a third auxiliary volume that will give fans an even deeper look into Star Wars’ relationship with Japanese culture.
