Marvel Studios just released the first official trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The 2:44 minutes piece includes a few scenes from the first teaser but also provides a closer look at the world Reed Richards, his wife Sue Storm, her brother Jonny Storm, and their friend Ben Grimm live in: a Jetsons-like retro-futuristic New York City from the 1960s with flying cars, monorails and computer monitors in spherical form.

And like the teaser, the trailer places heavy emphasis on the theme of family, with Sue being pregnant and the heroes pleading to collaborate in order to protect the world from harm.

The trailer also shows that, unlike the Avengers from Earth 616, who had to face much animosity and were even leashed by the Sakovia Protocol, the Fantastic Four seemed to have been universally loved, with various people thanking them and the group getting even invited to their world's version of the Ed Sullivan Show. Kids built their own soapbox cars with the Fantastic Four logo on them and collected action figures and toys of their heroes.

Unlike in many of the comics, Ebon Moss-Bachrach's The Thing was not feared by the public for his appearance but cheered on by kids to lift a Volkswagen Beetle.

But danger loomed as the Silver Surfer, played by Julia Garner, arrived from outer space to tell the world about its impending doom.

The trailer gives the impression that Reed, Sue, Jonny, and Ben were able to defeat the Silver Surfer, lulling the world into the security that the danger was over, until the main villain, Galactus, arrived.

One disturbing shot shows the spaceship of the Fantastic Four above a planet that is about to explode. It remains to be seen if this planet is their homeworld after the attack of Galactus and if they were forced to find a way through the multiverse to join the fight against Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.

The final shot of the trailer has Galactus stomping through New York in Godzilla style.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will hit theatres on July 25.
