There’s a lot of big news this week, and next week promises to be even bigger with the release of the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI coming on Tuesday, December 5th. This past week saw its share of big news items, with the first images for the upcoming Fallout series released online. Now, it was quickly followed up by a trailer showing many of the images, and some more, and the whole thing screams Fallout, like they pulled it right from the games.

The first half of the trailer seems to indicate that Lucy (Ella Purnell) is being promoted as the main character, as the first minute of the trailer shows her leaving Vault 33 (in Los Angeles) and venturing out into the Wasteland. As she wanders across the desert, a man’s voiceover warns her about what she’s getting into, complete with a nice little view of an abandoned house as a giant roach crawls inside. Turns out it's some guy she comes across, and he’s got one of the franchise’s most iconic characters with him: Dogmeat, the canine companion.

It moves on to show all kinds of other iconic Fallout images. Vertibirds take off in the California desert, cutting to a shot of Maximus (Aaron Moten), who looks back nervously at the hulking figure of a person in a power armor suit. Cue the classic 1940s and 1950s style music characteristic of the franchise as they cut from scene to scene. Walton Goggins’ The Ghoul makes an appearance, both as a ghoul tearing up a town and what must be a flashback of when he was not a ghoul. A Vault being raided, a giant mutated bear mauling a Brotherhood of Steel power armor soldier, even a mutated axolotl. It ends with a stunning shot of downtown LA being decimated by numerous nuclear explosions.

A recent Vanity Fair article detailed a lot of the setup for the Prime series, discussing how the showrunners approached it and how the apparent three main characters Lucy, The Ghoul, and Maximus will intersect and drive the story further. Lucy is a naive Vault Dweller entering the wasteland, The Ghoul is a bounty hunter with a long past, and Maximus is an idealist in the Brotherhood of Steel, starting April 12, the wasteland will shape their destinies.
