The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power showrunner Patrick McKay revealed a new character with an old face to Empire Magazine. Robert Aramayo, the show’s Elrond, will play Elrond’s twin brother Elros in a flashback. Aragorn, a main character in The Lord of the Rings, is a descendant of Elros, marking the character’s importance. Elros is a half-elf who chooses to stay on Middle-Earth and becomes the first king of Numenor, which he rules for 410 years of his 500-year lifespan.

McKay did not reveal any further details about Elros’ place in the story, but Aramayo commented on Elrond’s situation. He said, “This season is an interesting one. Elrond’s got his own little gaff now. He’s got his own little place in Rivendell. I was really excited that the show was going to bring it in.” Aramayo will be playing double duty this season with the elven brothers, and Numenor and Rivendell are both key locations in the Second Age when the show is set and the Third Age of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Rings of Power Season 3 premieres on November 11, 2026, with the first four episodes available. The next two episodes drop the next week, and the final two will be released on November 25.
