KPop Demon Hunters 2 rumors started flying around the internet almost immediately after the hit animation dropped. This was fuelled in part by creator Maggie Kang, who dropped multiple hints on the press tour, telling news outlets, “we’ve set up so much for potential backstory.”
But now we’ve got something a little bit more concrete than a wink and a nod from the cast and crew. Leaks are reporting that Sony Pictures and Netflix have reached an agreement on their partnership for the sequel and have officially secured Maggie Kang and Christopher Appelhans’ return. There’s no official statement yet from either Netflix or Sony, but they’re likely waiting for the ink to dry on the contracts.
There’s also no info as to whether Netflix has insisted on a full theatrical release of the sequel, or what final figure Sony has settled on this time around. Safe to say that it will be larger than the paltry 20 million that they received for the first movie.
There’s plenty of speculation about whether the sequel will bring the Saja Boys back or whether we will see a prequel with Rumi’s mother. But in the words of Maggie Kang (in another interview where she let the cat out of the bag), “Whatever it will be, it will be a story that deserves to be a sequel, and it will be something that we want to see.”
Maggie Kang still has to hand in a concept and script, so we’re probably not going to see Huntr/x until 2029.
