Bear McCreary has a name that many fans of the science fiction and fantasy film genre would instantly recognize. His compositions have been featured in numerous fan favorite shows, games, and movies from Battlestar Galactica, to Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and even God of War: Ragnarok. His work has earned him several accolades including a Prime Time Emmy for Outlander.
Recently, his work on The Rings of Power, has received particular attention. So much so, it would seem, that there is now going to be a physical release of the soundtrack for season two.
This release is the result of a collaboration between McCreary’s own label, Sparks & Shadows Records, and Mutant, an art company that also helped launch an album for McCreary last year. This work will be a 10-disc collection, with the first eight discs each being individual orchestral recordings of the scores from each of the episodes in season two. The remaining two discs will be the broader soundtrack that was released for season two.
io9 obtained images of the release, which will come with a gold foil slipcases and box, inspired by the show and featuring images from the season. It will also come with a 130-page book written by McCreary himself that details his process and inspiration for the scores.
It went live today and was limited to 1000 copies at $150 dollars each.
