It would be a dream come true for anyone who calls themselves a Star Wars fan: getting to direct an official piece of media for the franchise. If this dream came true for anyone, they would likely say that the most memorable part of the experience would be directing a lightsaber duel or getting to direct a scene with a legacy character like Obi-Wan, Anakin, Han, Luke, Leia or another character of that level. However, for Toby Haynes, it was a scene that seems mundane to most onlookers.

Despite getting generally good reviews from both fans and critics, the series Andor has been devoid of those things, in favor of a more grounded experience. When directing the episode named “Narkina 5,” Haynes was quoted as saying “Seeing [Forest Whitaker] do that was just absolutely magical, and to have him play opposite a heavyweight like Stellan was a career highlight.” According to an article in The Hollywood Reporter, Haynes talks about his experience in having Forest reprise his Rogue One role of Saw Gerrera.  In this scene, he has a tension-filled conversation with Stellan Skarsgård’s character Luthen Rael near the end of the episode.

Haynes was also excited to have worked alongside another big-name actor: Andy Serkis, who was playing his second role in the franchise, Kino Loy. Serkis had previously played the role of Supreme Leader Snoke in the Sequel Trilogy. Haynes stated that he viewed Serkis as Kino, not Snoke.

Haynes directed the first three episodes of Andor, as well as episode 8, and the upcoming episodes 9 and 10, which will soon be coming to Disney Plus. The first season of Andor will have twelve episodes total, with a new episode released each Wednesday.
