Disney has released a trailer for a new anime on its official Disney+ YouTube channel. The company is no stranger to dipping its toe into the anime scene, as it acted as Studio Ghibli’s international distributor for some time, as well as recently, when they partnered with numerous studios to create Star Wars Visions. Now they’ll be bringing to life a series based on a mobile game by the same name.
Disney Twisted-Wonderland was released on iOS and Android stores on March 18th, 2020. The game featured new designs of familiar Disney villains reimagined by Yana Toboso, the creator of Black Butler. Those character designs will be adapted by Haruka Nakano and Akane Sato for the eight-episode season. Shin Katagai of The Ossan Newbie Adventure, Trained To Death by the Most Powerful Party, Became Invincible will act as director. The trailer features Koichi Yamadera voicing the trailer’s narration. Yamadera has been featured in numerous Japanese dubs of Disney classics, portraying iconic characters like Genie in The Return of Jafar and Stitch in Lilo & Stitch.

This season is titled Chapter of Heartslabyul, and features the dorm run by a character based on the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. The trailer blends anime art style with Disney’s classic animation style at times, giving a unique spin to the title.
