From the witches road to the stars above! Emmy-nominated writer and director Jac Schaeffer has been tapped to develop a brand new Stargate series for Amazon!

This new series falls under Schaeffer’s new development deal with Amazon, which was announced last year. In addition to being the showrunner, she will also executive produce the series alongside Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Tory Tunnell (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters). The franchise originated in 1994 with the original Stargate film directed by Roland Emmerich and starred Kurt Russell and James Spader. Despite receiving mixed reviews, it was a moderate box office success, became a cult classic, and spawned a long-running media franchise. This currently untitled new Stargate series (should it move forward) will be the fourth Stargate series following SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe. This series is Amazon’s second attempt at a Stargate project following their acquisition of MGM in 2022. Development on a new Stargate project was officially announced a year later. Martin Gero, who worked on all three previous Stargate series, was set as showrunner but ultimately the series didn’t move forward.

Jac Schaeffer made her feature directorial debut in 2009 with the sci-fi romantic comedy Timer. 10 years later, she wrote The Hustle, a remake of Frank Oz’s Dirty Rotten Scoundrels starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. Schaeffer began her relationship with Marvel Studios by contributing to the screenplay for Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel, though her contributions were uncredited. She also wrote the initial story for Black Widow. Schaeffer’s biggest claim to fame is being the creator and main writer on WandaVision, which received critical acclaim, was a ratings success, became a pop culture phenomenon, and earned her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie. She followed this up withAgatha All Along in 2024, for which she directed 3 of its 9 episodes. Jac Schaeffer was set for a television remake of the 2003 cult favorite Holes for Disney+, but the series didn’t move forward. She was also set to develop VisionQuest but later dropped out due to commitments to Agatha All Along.
