The casting of a major character has officially been announced for the third season of Amazon Prime Video's The Rings of Power. While fans knew that Jamie Campbell Bower was added to the cast for this season, his role was kept tightly under wraps. According to pop culture magazine Empire, Bower will bring Elven lord Celeborn to life. This character is Galadriel’s husband and a major character in Middle-earth lore, particularly in multiple major battles. In an interview with Empire, cast members and the showrunners commented on the casting choice.
Bower himself explained what inspired him when working out how to bring this character to life: “This idea of longing and yearning is so pervasive in Tolkien’s relationship with Edith for the time that they were apart. I really feasted on that idea. Celeborn has had to find a way to survive whilst longing for something that he so dearly loved and so dearly missed as well.” Morfydd Clark, the actress who portrays Galadriel, tacked on her reaction to the casting, “She’s kind of rude to him in the books. She’s the queen! But Jamie looks exactly like how I would imagine Celeborn. He’s such an Elf.”

Co-showrunner J.D. Payne explained what drew them to Bower for the role of Celeborn, “He has this voice that is rich and hypnotic and sonorous that feels it has the wisdom of the ages buried inside of it. And then we did a chemistry read [with Clark], and instantly it just felt like he loved her so much. It felt so natural, and so organic, and so right.” The third season of The Rings of Power premieres on November 11, 2026. There will reportedly be eight episodes in total, though no exact release schedule has been announced beyond the first episode. To catch up on the plot, the first two seasons are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
