Where have all the children gone? That is what we are all wondering after watching the trailer for Barbarian director Zach Cregger’s new horror film, Weapons. “Last night at 2:17am, every child from Mrs. Gandy’s class woke up, got out of bed, went downstairs, opened the front door, walked into the dark, and they never came back” is the chilling narration in the trailer voiced by a young child. New Line Cinema has released a new synopsis for the film: “When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.” The trailer gives very little away, and features plenty of disturbing images, making it clear that this film is going to be terrifying.
Weapons’ cast includes Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, Austin Abrams, and Cary Christopher. Cregger is not only directing, but has also written the screenplay and will act as one of the film’s producers. He has hinted that this film may be in the same universe as Barbarian, and this is further teased on the webpage that has been set up for the film: MaybrookMissing.com. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Cregger said, “That mystery is going to propel you through at least half of the movie, but that is not the movie.” He also promises that it is “bigger and weirder” than his previous film.
Weapons is expectedly to hit theaters on August 8, 2025. You can watch the trailer for yourself below.
