The Weta Workshop opened in 2008 as an attraction for tourists who visited Wellington, New Zealand, to see the hills and mountains used in the film series. The workshop is known as one of the principal visual effect studios in the world. The Weta Workshop received Academy Awards for their effort in The Lord of the Rings films, King Kong, The Avengers, and The Hobbit Trilogy.
