The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special is an absolutely delightful holiday movie that will be watched by Marvel fans for years to come. It features the Guardians, whom we’re familiar with working together to give Peter Quill the ultimate Christmas.

Mantis and Drax are told a story about how Yondu ruined Christmas for Peter. So they take it upon themselves to give Peter the ultimate gift: Kevin Bacon. They take a trip to Earth, and the tourists around Hollywood are immediately enamored by them. Mantis and Drax get paid for getting their pictures taken with fans. After, they go do what any person would do to find Kevin Bacon, go to a club. They have a fun time but are still missing Kevin Bacon. So they get a Stars House Tour map that brings them right to his front door.

Antics ensue, and they chase him until they successfully capture and bring him back to Knowhere. They put on a whole show with lights, music, and even fake snow. Kevin Bacon is wheeled out in a box as a present for Peter, but he is not happy, as he equates the gift to human trafficking. He orders them to bring Kevin Bacon back home but instead decides to stay to show the “meaning of Christmas.” A montage ensues with Kevin Bacon singing and the Guardians giving each other gifts. The most shocking gift was Nebula’s gift to Rocket, which appeared to be Bucky Barnes’s metal arm. It ends with Mantis revealing to Peter that she is his sister. He replies, “that’s the best Christmas gift ever.”

Drax and Mantis were the stars of this special, and it was great to see more of these characters that we haven’t seen much of in the past. These two are great together, and I hope we see more of them in the future. The rest of the cast includes the other members of the Guardians, such as a teen Groot who is definitely going through an awkward growing phase. It also introduces Cosmo, The Spacedog, who we will hopefully see in Volume 3. There were many callbacks to previous films as well.

Guardians of The Galaxy has always relied on classic yet familiar music for their soundtracks. This special was no different and used various Christmas songs that kept the vibe going throughout the special. In addition, getting to see Kevin Bacon perform on Knowhere with a local band was great to see.

James Gunn did a fantastic job keeping the fun vibe we’re familiar with in the Guardians movies but added a Christmas twist. He was also able to keep it funny and exciting but also had the right amount of sentiment. This was considered the “epilogue to Phase 4” and was a perfect and fun way to close out a relatively sad phase of the MCU.

Overall, the entire special had me laughing and was the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit. Nothing significant happened in the special, and that’s okay. It was an absolute joy to watch, and I can see it becoming a must-watch every holiday season for Marvel fans.

Rating: 9/10
