Every Wednesday, at 7pm Eastern, two die-hard Star Wars fans embark on a voyage of celebration and nerdiness on “Star Wars Culture LIVE,” a positive podcast focused on the best of the Star Wars fandom. These characters are Ian Bowling and Marty Ingleston, and they’ve been the hosts of SWCL since August of 2024. Since then, the podcast has gone through numerous stages of evolution: “Top 3” favorites, dad jokes, “On This Day”, guest appearances, and many other types of segments. Nowadays, the “Host Fun Facts” has transformed into “Whatcha Up To?” followed by news updates via Star Wars Underworld and the main episode focus.
It’s a bit of a slow season for Star Wars news; lots of exciting things in production, but nothing quite underway at the moment. Times like these are a perfect time to dive back into the past, which is exactly what Marty did, examining multimedia Star Wars projects from the old days. Shadows of the Empire, Clone Wars (2002-2003), Republic Commando, and The Old Republic are all examples of large endeavors released in the 90s and 2000s in multiple media projects: video games, novels, comic runs, TV series…everything except full-scale movies. How were they received, and how did they impact the franchise as a whole? Ian and Marty dig into it!
