Today on CultureSlate, we begin a brand new recurring series of articles: A Trip To Trailer Park

The goal of this series is to spotlight new movie trailers released this week and hopefully inspire you to check them out. I’m a firm believer in expanding one’s film and television horizons, so hopefully you, the reader, will be inspired to do the same! Since this debut episode is at the end of the month (at least when I was writing it, I’m sick, ok!), we’ll be looking at the last 2 weeks of trailers. Hey, the more trailers the better, right?!

I Love Boosters (Dir. Boots Riley)

Visionary director Boots Riley (Sorry to Bother You) returns with his long-awaited sophomore feature film. Centered on a group of boosters called the Velvet Gang, led by a woman named Corvette (played by Keke Palmer). Boosters steal clothes from high-fashion stores and resell them at retail prices to marginalized communities. Expected to feature the same sci-fi insanity and timely social commentary as Riley’s previous work, I Love Boosters stars Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Poppy Liu, Eiza González, LaKeith Stanfield, Will Poulter, Don Cheadle, and Demi Moore. I Love Boosters breaks into theaters on May 22nd.

The Bride! (Dir. Maggie Gyllenhaal)

Staying on the subject of sophomore feature films, Maggie Gyllenhaal returns for her second directorial effort with The Bride! A twisted retelling of The Bride of Frankenstein, The Bride! is set in 1930s Chicago and is a tad more unhinged than your average monster movie. One part love story, one crime thriller, one punk rock horror film, all 100% unrestrained Maggie Gyllenhaal. Starring Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Penélope Cruz, and Jake Gyllenhaal, The Bride! will rise in theaters on March 6th.

How To Make A Killing (Dir. John Patton Ford)

Loosely based on the book  Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal by Roy Horniman, How to Make a Killing is the sophomore directorial effort (the last one today, I promise!) from John Patton Ford. Becket Redfellow, a man disowned by his immensely wealthy family, is determined to get his inheritance. With his money on the line, Becket will have to navigate his relationship with his girlfriend, reunite with an old friend, and get his inheritance by any means necessary. Starring Glen Powell, Margaret Qualley, andJessica Henwick, How to Make a Killing comes to theaters on February 20th.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (Dir. Aaron Horvath & Michael Jelenic)

From the Mushroom Kingdom to the vastness of outer space, the Super Mario Bros. are back in business! Despite defeating Bowser, new threats arise when Bowser Jr. starts causing trouble. Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad now must team up with new allies like Yoshi and Princess Rosalina to save the day once again. Starring Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Keegan-Michael Key, Jack Black, Benny Safdie, and Brie Larson, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie flies into theaters on April 1st.

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die (Dir. Gore Verbinski)

The future is in danger, and it’s up to the citizens of Los Angeles to save it. When a man from the future tries to recruit heroes, he finds himself leading a ragtag team that may not be entirely up for the job. After a lengthy absence, Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Ring, Rango) finally returns to the big screen. Starring Sam Rockwell, Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, and Zazie Beets, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die transports into theaters on February 13th.
