'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Previews Box-Office Exceeds 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'

In its first day, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is already beating No Way Home’s opening day records with a stunning $167 million-$173 million including previews. The previews alone brought in $72 million. For contrast, No Way Home earned $121.96 million during its opening day, and is largely credited as the film that brought audiences back to the theater post-pandemic. Some analysts are predicting that Brand New Day will beat Avengers: Endgame’s record of $357.1 million, but more modest estimates put Brand New Day at around $330 million. If this second-guess is correct, then Brand New Day will be the second-most successful box-office opening for Marvel.

Tom Holland also starred in The Odyssey, which is predicted to earn $52 million this weekend, bringing its total to $396.5 million since its July 17 opening. While big box office numbers aren’t entirely reflective of how audiences enjoy a film, since tickets are bought beforehand, audience reviews are matching the hype. General audiences, parents, and kids under 12 gave the film five stars in PostTrak exits. Even critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 90% Fresh rating. General audiences on that platform ranked the film 98% Fresh, praising the emotional stakes and Holland’s soulful performance.
