Huyang Fighting The HK Droids Was One Of The Best Fights In 'Ahsoka' So Far

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for episode 4 of Ahsoka.

The first four episodes of Ahsoka already had their fair share of lightsaber action. But “Fallen Jedi” includes another fight, which is remarkable in several ways: that of Huyang against an HK assassin droid.

At the beginning of the episode, Sabine and Huyang tried to fix the stranded T-6 shuttle to either leave Seatos or at least make contact with Hera Syndulla and the fleet of the New Republic. When his attempts failed, the 25.0000-year-old architect droid decided to exit the shuttle to get some wires from underneath the ship's hull. Fittingly enough, Ahsoka warned Huyang to be careful as the henchmen of Morgan Elsbeth and Baylan Skoll would surely be looking for them.

RELATED:

Just when Huyang was able to get the T-6's system back online, he was attacked by one of the HK assassin droids. What followed was one of the rare one-on-one fights in Star Wars that involved neither a blaster nor a lightsaber. And it was one of the even rarer instances of two droids fighting each other.

Both opponents exclusively used their fists, with the HK relying on his greater physical strength, while Huyang took advantage of his two additional arms.

The fact that the assassin droid didn't simply shoot Huyang or at least wield an electrostaff as they had done against Ahsoka in the first episode could either mean that he regarded his opponent as an all-too-easy target that could be destroyed with his bare arms. This would make sense as the main purpose of these droids was to build and teach (in Huyang’s case - how to build a lightsaber), and not to fight. He might have regretted his decision though, as Huyang was able to hit some series blows against the HK's head.

On the other hand, it is also possible that the assassin droid saw in Huyang an even worthier opponent as someone of flesh and blood who deserved to be beaten in a boxing match instead of being just shot down.

There have been several occurrences in Star Wars lore where droids saw themself as far superior to humans or aliens (like Doctor Aphra's sidekicks BT-1 and Triple-Zero or the crime syndicate Droid Gotra), so it would be fair to assume that the HK didn't even want to kill Huyang, but simply disable him to get to their primary targets, Ahsoka and Sabine. Supporting this theory is the fact that when Huyang tried to call for help, the HK put his hand on the other droid's mouth so that Ahsoka and Sabine could not hear his calls instead of disabling him.

This plan was shortlived however, as when Huyang ducked one of the assassin droid's blow, the latter smashed into the piece of the ship that Huynag had just repaired, causing a power outage and alerting Sabine and Ahsoka. In the ensuing battle, the former Jedi and her former Padawan made short work of Elbeth's henchmen, including the HK droid that Huyang had fought before.

Huyang's violent encounter wasn't the first time the architect droid had to fight: In The Clone Wars' season-five episode "A Test of Strenghs", he briefly battled against one of Hondo Ohnaka's pirates, even after his head and his two primary arms had been severed from his torso.
