When Boba Fett returned in The Mandalorian and teamed up with Din Djarin, it seemed like the start of a new, long-term alliance. The duo quickly reached an understanding based on their sense of loyalty and honor, and Boba helped Din; in return, he was helped by him in The Book of Boba Fett. Unfortunately, while Boba’s return in The Mandalorian was met with excitement, the dismal response to The Book of Boba Fett resulted in the end of an awesome new duo. When the series ended, Djarin and Fett parted ways, with Fett remaining on Tatooine with Fennec Shand as the Daimyo of Mos Espa. Djarin eventually ended up on Mandalore after the series, and the show turned its focus to Bo-Katan Kryze and Din Djarin’s alliance.

Bo-Katan and Din Djarin were expected to fight over the Darksaber. Still, when that didn’t happen, fans expected Boba Fett to appear during the final half of The Mandalorian Season 3 to help Din as he fought to reclaim Mandalore. Unfortunately, although Temuera Morrison expected to be part of the series, he never received a call to return. Now, The Mandalorian and Grogu is just 4 months away, but there’s pretty much no confirmation that Temuera Morrison filmed anything for the movie. If Boba Fett doesn’t have any role in it, that means Din and Boba haven’t hung out since The Book of Boba Fett in 2022. That means these characters were last seen interacting with each other in 2022. That’s 4 years too long for two equally awesome characters not to have a scene together.

Why The "Mando-Fett" Collaboration Actually Worked

When Fett returned in The Mandalorian, he was a bigger legend compared to Din, and the internet was flooded with hilarious memes showing that Din would be overshadowed now that beloved Boba Fett is back. The series did total justice to Boba as a character by having him work together with Mando for mutual interests. Din returned Boba’s armor to him, and the help he rendered Boba and Fennec was quickly returned by the duo who stuck by his side until he found Grogu. Din, Boba, and Fennec worked closely together in The Mandalorian Chapters 14, 15, and 16. Thanks to Boba, Din had a ride to Morak, where he was able to break into the Imperial Database and find the coordinates to Moff Gideon’s ship. Fennec and Boba continued to help him until the end of Chapter 16, and the episode highlighted tensions between Boba and Bo-Katan Kryze.

It seemed to foreshadow a closer alliance between Din and Boba, and further tensions between the clone of Jango Fett and Bo-Katan, who basically insulted him and his father, and every clone in existence. Fast forward to The Book of Boba Fett, and Djarin didn’t waste time returning the favor by helping Fett defeat the Pyke Syndicate. Even though they went their separate ways after peace was achieved, Season 3 shed light on why Boba and Fennec would make a great crew for Din. Even though he worked with Bo-Katan and helped the Mandalorians, Din ultimately left and never fit in. His real friends are all outsiders, and even Boba isn’t a Mandalorian in a true sense.

Filling The Void In Mando's Circle

Din’s closest friends in the series are Cara Dune and High Magistrate Greef Karga. With Dune written out of the series and the unfortunate passing of Carl Weathers, Din has now lost both his closest friends. Greef and Din grew closer with each season and formed a warm relationship, and the series won’t be the same without Karga’s charismatic presence. There will be a hole to fill in his life, and he’ll need two friends who are as loyal and dependable as Greef and Cara. Boba Fett and Fennec Shand would be the ideal duo for him to rely on for friendship and service. You can bet that they would both do anything to help Din, as they understand his honorable character. By the end of The Book of Boba Fett, Boba had come to appreciate Din’s strict adherence to the Mandalorian code of honor.

When the situation seemed against Boba, and he believed it would be better for Din to leave, Din refused to abandon him and said, “It’s against the creed. I gave you my word. I am with you until we both fall.” That revealed everything Fett needed to know about Din Djarin’s character. Djarin is a loyal and honorable Mandalorian warrior. He has integrity and character, which are qualities Boba appreciates, especially at this moment in his life when he wants to put the bounty hunter lifestyle behind him. Both need reliable friends who can form a relationship that goes beyond a business transaction. Both are men of their word, and while Din Djarin is the character newer Star Wars fans identify with, Boba Fett is a legend.

The Aesthetic Of Two Icons

Keeping Boba and Din together permanently just makes sense. Why would you separate two characters who both have such a strong aura and are both so well-known? Even though The Book of Boba Fett was criticized for sets and certain story writing decisions, not one had an issue with Din and Boba’s dynamic. Not having these two legends work together is a terrible decision. All the episodes where these two partnered up for a common interest have impressive ratings. Everyone loved the aesthetic of Din in his shiny silver beskar armor, standing shoulder to shoulder with the legendary Boba Fett in his nostalgic green and red painted armor, which belonged to his father. There’s definitely something highly satisfying about their contrasting fighting styles. Boba uses his weapons in an explosive and offensive style, while Din is more defensive and in control. Din likes to bring out unique weapons like the Darksaber and the Beskar spear for combat, while Boba sticks to his rifles and keeps the Seismic Charge as a last-minute, but highly devastating surprise. Apart from fighting and sticking together because of their sense of honor and loyalty, Din and Boba never really sat down and had a conversation about life.

Din doesn’t know much about Boba, except that his father was Jango Fett, who was born on Mandalore and fought for the Mandalorians. There’s a lot more about Boba’s life that Din is completely oblivious to; in fact, Boba knows a lot about the galaxy that he has been shielded from. He was exposed to the harshest realities from an early age, and the grief of losing their parents when they were kids is something they can bond over. What are Boba’s thoughts on the various Mandalorian factions, and how would he feel if he learned that Din gave up the Darksaber and Bo-Katan became the ruler of Mandalore again? There’s a lot that can be explored, and wouldn’t it be tremendous if fans got a scene of Pedro Pascal and Temuera Morrison together? That would surely be a treat, but it isn’t possible if Boba isn’t brought back. Technically, Din does need friends after he lost two important ones who were with him since the start of Season 1. By bringing Boba and Fennec, Favreau and Filoni would be giving Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen a chance at redemption after the poor reviews for The Book of Boba Fett.

The Future Of The Mandoverse Depends On This

It’s been long enough, and if the Din-Boba-Fennec trio works, it could be explosive. Fans have already been given a glimpse of how well these characters go together, and now, the narrative requires a bit of creative planning and layered writing. It only makes sense to utilize a legendary character like Boba Fett as long as Morrison is physically fit enough to portray him. Making Din and Boba the new power duo would please generations of fans and create a compelling dynamic that has potential for growth, and could become as legendary as Han and Luke, Anakin and Rex, and even Anakin and Obi-Wan.

It’s time Star Wars stopped wasting the potential for greatness here and took advantage of both these characters being alive at the same time. Even if Boba doesn’t return in the movie, a fourth season of The Mandalorian would be an excellent chance to bring him back. Either way, there has to be an indication that Din and Boba are still in contact. With the Hutts playing a role in the movie, bringing Boba back seems like a no-brainer. Who knows more about the Hutts than Boba, and as the threat of the Imperial Remnant rises, Boba could provide the intelligence and resources Din requires to track down the Imperial Remnant. With friends like Boba, Fennec, Peli Motto, and Cobb Vanth on Tatooine, it can become a strategic hub for Din as his role in the New Republic grows.

Whatever went wrong with The Book of Boba Fett had nothing to do with the Djarin- Fett duo; in fact, their friendship was one of the bright spots in the series. In the future, instead of having one steal the other’s thunder, they should be shown working together as equals and combining their strengths the way they did at the end of the series. Their scenes together worked really well, but unfortunately, the bad seemed to outweigh the good when it came to how people reacted to the series overall. That doesn’t mean the legendary combination of Din Djarin and Boba Fett should be wasted, and hopefully, this duo will make a comeback very soon.
