The Worlds Of ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 1

Din Djarin approaching Arvala-7

The Mandalorian’s first season brought fans to a host of new worlds, alongside the return of one notable and previously seen planet, Tatooine. With The Mandalorian and Grogu fast approaching on the horizon, CultureSlate figured it was time to remind fans of these worlds as, while they are unlikely to appear in the film, they could get a mention in dialogue. Recalling the past exploits of our main characters on these worlds should also provide a solid refresher ahead of the upcoming big screen adventure. Season 1 also stays firmly within the vast expanse of the Outer Rim, showing Din Djarin’s initial adventures as distant from the core of galactic politics and major populations.

Pagodon

Located in the Pelgrin sector, Pagodon is an icy planet not entirely void of civilization. It was the first location seen in The Mandalorian and helped set the scene for Din Djarin’s cold, all-business mentality, as well as establishing his resourcefulness and drive. After brutally dispatching thugs trying to prevent him from capturing his bounty quarry at the small settlement of Ferryman’s Reach, the bounty hunter was almost pulled down into the planet’s icy surface by the sudden arrival of a huge local animal, a ravinak. However, Din Djarin electrocuted the creature, and the Razorcrest rocketed off to safety, set to deliver its captured cargo to the next destination, as in our article.

Nevarro is located in the Dalicron sector, and appears quite inhospitable from space. Covered in volcanic activity, black rocks, and dark solid, it is still inhabited by a solid population based out of Nevarro City, the planetary capital. Run by Magistrate Greef Karga, who also doubled as a leader of the Bounty Hunters Guild, Nevarro became heavily populated with bounty hunters after the rise of the New Republic, all competing for jobs of limited reward or challenge. It was also home to a Mandalorian covert, hiding beneath the city in its sewer tunnels, which Din Djarin supported through his bounty hunter work.

During Season 1, we see the region’s Bounty Hunter Guild membership decimated first by the Mandalorians, and then Din Djarin himself, as he kills everyone sent after him. Greef, meanwhile, is secretly being pressed by a local ragtag Imperial presence, unknown to be working under the thumb or in concert with Moff Gideon. Ultimately, the region is freed from this harsh control, allowing the capital city to start rebuilding and returning to vibrancy after its brief time in the shade.

Arvala-7

Kuiil’s ranch on the planet Arvala-7

Found in the Sevetta sector, Arvala-7 is a remote and arid world with few inhabitants. A peaceful world, the arrival of Nikto mercenaries, and a mysterious target prompt the Ugnaught Kuiil to aid Din Djarin in approaching their compound so the mercenaries might be eliminated, returning peace to the world. In addition to singular residents like Kuiil and local wildlife like the mudhorn, the world is also home to at least one clan of Jawas maneuvering about the rocky surface.

Arvala-7 was where Din Djarin first fought off rival bounty hunters seeking Grogu, then only known as the Child, and where he defeated an angry mudhorn who refused to let him escape with one of their eggs for the local Jawas (who had picked the Razorcrest clean). Din Djarin later returned and asked for Kuiil’s help in traveling back to Nevarro, but as the elderly Ugnaught was killed trying to keep the Child safe, we do not know the status of his ranch nor further information about the planet.

Sorgan

Found in the Karthakk sector, Sorgan is a swampy planet with a diverse local populace and some population centers across its surface. One of the planet’s primary exports is the drink known as spotchka, an electric-blue liquid created from the rendering-down and mixing of byproducts from the planet’s small, bright blue-green crustaceans called krill. Another example of the local wildlife is the one-eyed Sorgan frog. Sorgan was a world where Din Djarin thought he and the Child might lay low, but had already been claimed as a quiet hiding place by Cara Dune.

The departing bounty hunter was then approached by local villagers, who urged him to help them defend their small town against raiders using surplus Imperial equipment, and so Cara was recruited to the cause. While tempted by the quiet life Sorgan could offer him and the Child, Din Djarin ultimately moved on after the raiders were dealt with because an attempted assassination of the Child by yet another Nevarro hunter revealed the pair would only bring more problems down on the quiet world.

Tatooine

Tatooine is located in the Arkanis sector, and is an arid, rocky world, much like Arvala-7, though it holds a substantially more prominent population and role in galactic politics due to its longstanding connections to the criminal underworld. By the era of The Mandalorian, however, both its small Imperial garrison and criminal element had largely been excised from the world. The criminals were not entirely gone of course, as the death of Jabba the Hutt had left a power vacuum filled with the seemingly weaker Bib Fortuna, who ruled from Jabba’s old palace. But it seems clear he lacked the same galactic-level reach as the old Hutt crime lord.

During Season 1, Din Djarin arrived on Tatooine hoping for work and repairs, and was forced to first trust the mechanic Peli Motto, and then team up with the mysterious Toro Calican in pursuit of a significant bounty, Fennec Shand. While Peli was fully enchanted by the Child, Toro betrayed Din Djarin to capture the Child for himself, but he was shot for his efforts, while Peli would become the Mandalorian’s friend in the months to follow.

Aq Vetina

Death Watch arrives and takes the young Din Djarin to safety

Only seen in flashbacks across Season 1 of The Mandalorian, Aq Vetina was Din Djarin’s homeworld before his induction into the life of a Mandalorian. The planet was located in the Relgim sector, and was attacked by the Separatists sometime during the Clone Wars. Exactly why is unclear, just as it is unclear why Death Watch intervened and destroyed the marauding droids. But they did so, and then took Din Djarin away from his homeworld to be raised among their number. All these years later, we still need critical context on these events, and one can only hope that we get more information on this enigmatic backstory soon.
