Fans of the original Willow franchise are excited for the upcoming Disney+ series set to release next month. The series is to be a sequel to the original movie, bringing back many faces from the 1988 film as well as some new characters to help tell the story.

One such actor that we know has a confirmed role is none other than Christian Slater, although it has not been disclosed who his character will be. Ralph Ineson of The VVitch will also have an unspecified role. Fans are hoping to see at least a glimpse of Val Kilmer as Madmartigan, as he recently was able to do a cameo role for the movie, Maverick. Kilmer has had health issues that have prevented him from doing much acting in recent years. While not featured in the trailers thus far, Vanity Fair reported back in May that Madmartigan is to play a huge role in the series and that Kilmer will reprise the role.

Per Vanity Fair, “Val’s a huge part of this, and the first conversation I had, when Warwick and I got the greenlight to do this, was with Val,” Kasdan said. “We wanted his character to be a part of the story. We wanted him to be in the show.” “Kasdan added, however, that due to COVID-19 restrictions, Kilmer was unable to shoot in Wales with the main unit. “But he is in the show in a big way. And we’re pretty excited about it.” He concluded that “Madmartigan lives on” (Vanity Fair).

Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy and Ron Howard are producing the series. Warwick Davis will be returning to the title role of Willow Ufgood. Whereas in the original his quest was to protect baby Elora Danan from the evil queen Bavmorda by hiding her until the time comes for her to fulfil her destiny and overthrow Bavamrda; this sequel will center on the quest to find Elora as she has vanished. Joanne Whalley will reprise her role as Sorsha, the daughter of Queen Bavmorda turned good warrior princess. Kevin Polluck is returning as Rool. And Rick Overton will return as Framjean.

The 1988 film left a happy for now ending. Elora was in the care of Sorsha and Madmartigan. They became the royal family. The Daikini, Nelwyn, and Brownies served together and then went their separate ways. Willow returned home with a spellbook from Raziel and was hailed as a hero. Collider reports that “Willow looks to be an action-packed comedy with plenty of fantasy beats”.

Joining the team is Tony Revolori from Spider-Man: Homecoming, Erin Kellyman from Falcon and the Winder Soldier, Rudy Cruz from Mare of Easttown, Ellie Bamber from Nocturnal Animals, and Amar Chadha-Patel from Dashcam. These new faces are all featured in the latest teaser trailer, which dropped exactly one month before the Disney+ series is set to premier.

The original 1988 movie is available for streaming on the Disney+ platform with the new series scheduled to debut November 30, 2022.
