The goodest dog in the Marvel galaxy is Cosmo the Spacedog. The character originated in the comics and has had small cameos within the MCU. We will get to see more of Cosmo in the Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special that comes out the day after Thanksgiving, and the character will also play a bigger part in Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3.

Cosmo has definitely not had the life of a normal dog. In the comics, Cosmo is the security chief of the space station Knowhere. He was launched into space by the Soviets in the 60s, as part of an experiment, but was eventually lost. He arrived in Knowhere after being mutated by cosmic rays. Peter Quill and the Guardians of the Galaxy eventually operated out of Knowhere for a short time and dragged Cosmo into many of their adventures. He has enhanced hearing and smell, high-level telepathy, and telekinesis. Cosmo’s exact power levels are unknown, but he was able to take on Adam Warlock alone.

In the MCU, Cosmo the Spacedog is a female. The story of Cosmo in the MCU and the comics is similar, but in the MCU, she ends up in the collection of Taneleer Tivan on Knowhere. We first see her in the Guardians Of The Galaxy where she sees the team before being freed by the Power Stone explosion. She makes an appearance in the end credits of Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol 2, and we also see her in the animated Marvel series, What If?, in the episode where T’Challa becomes Star-Lord. We also get to see Cosmo in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy by Square Enix.

While we’ve seen Cosmo in cameos, we have yet to see the canine in a bigger role. This will change, however, in the Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special where she has credit in the trailer, alongside the rest of the Guardians and Kevin Bacon. The dog will be voiced by Borat’s Maria Bakalova. We know that she will play a bigger part as well in Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3; since it’s James Gunn’s final Guardians film, maybe Cosmo could go on to create the Annihilators, just like in the comics. Whatever her role may be in both the Holiday Special and Volume 3, fans are very excited to see more of this mysterious MCU doggo.
