WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 3, “CHAPTER 19: THE CONVERT”

If there is one thing to remember about the characters that George Lucas introduces in the Star Wars saga, it is that everyone serves a larger purpose. Whether the character appears in only one movie or headlines their own series (like Andor), or is a well-established character whose past is further explored, viewers can always learn new things about them. One recent example is The Mandalorian, which brings new nuances to familiar characters. One such character who finally got her time in the spotlight is Elia Kane.

Elia Kane served as the communications officer under Moff Gideon and was integral in assisting Gideon in locating and capturing “the asset.” She maintained contact with a Mimbanese informant operating on Nevarro who told her that Grogu was with the titular Mandalorian. Often seen in the background, Kane was present during Grogu’s capture at the temple ruins in Tython. For the better part of the second season of The Mandalorian, Kane was mainly relegated to her job until her position and privileges were stripped after Moff Gideon was taken into custody.

RELATED:

During the time between the Season 2 finale and "Chapter 19: The Convert,” Kane and fellow former Imperial officers are rehabilitated through the Amnesty program in order to rejoin the New Republic. Kane is seen living with other former Imperials in the Amnesty Apartments. Her new life as Amnesty Officer G68 seems content as she socializes with other former officers and reminisces about travel biscuits with Doctor Pershing.

Despite his claims that he has no resentment toward his new life, Kane is well aware of his desire in continuing his clone research as she was present during his presentation. After many interactions, she is quick to gain the trust of Doctor Pershing. Through some shady dealings which include smuggling travel biscuits, leaving their designated area, evading ticket droid on the public, and entering the off-limits Shipyard Depot to obtain a mobile lab from an Imperial cruiser. However, it turns out Kane has been setting him up and Pershing is arrested by New Republic soldiers.

Pershing then undergoes rehabilitation via the Six-O-Two Mitigator (nicknamed the mind flayer) at low voltages. However, when left alone, Kane raises the voltage, essentially turning it into an actual mind flayer, causing pain and suffering to Pershing for his “insubordination.”

Fans can only speculate as to Elia Kane’s motives at this time. Hopefully, the next episodes will dive deeper into what will happen with Pershing and Kane. Kane’s cunning and intelligence are demonstrated in this episode. She would be a formidable opponent if she were to reunite with Gideon.
