In November, Ash Ketchum finally became Pokémon World Champion after 25 seasons. Pokémon fans have since then speculated what might become of Ash and Pikachu but on December 16, the official Pokémon Twitter account announced that the next Pokémon series will feature a new protagonist. The new heroine is named Liko, and will also have a new male protagonist, Roy.

Based on the announcement, Ash and Pikachu will see the end of their journey as the main heroes of the Pokémon anime series in a special 11-episode ‘final chapter’ which seems to tie up loose ends and story arcs of the series. This final arc for Ash and Pikachu will debut in Japan in January 2023 and will feature old characters like Brock and Misty.

Liko and Roy’s adventures will start in April 2023. While not much has been revealed about Liko and Roy, what is known is that they’ll have their adventure in a new region. While it hasn’t been named specifically, having Fuecoco, Quaxly, and Sprigatito feature in the announcement trailer has made fans speculate that the new Pokémon anime series will be set in Paldea, the same setting as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Whether Liko and Roy will cross paths with Ash and Pikachu is still unknown, but is something that fans would undoubtedly look forward to.
