After many years of absence from the gaming arena, Star Trek has slowly been making its return over the past few years. Now, we have another Trek game to add to the growing modern library, and it is focused on the exploits of Voyager!
Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown is a new survival strategy game set during the adventures of the same-named vessel across the Delta Quadrant. Players will be able to take control of the famous ship and chart their course back home, with developer gameXcite and publisher Daedalic Entertainment mentioning managing resources, engaging in exploration, roguelite elements, and crew dynamics as notable features. The trailer accompanying the game’s announcement has gameplay footage, which has led to some comparisons with FTL, not a bad comparison or source of inspiration for a game based around Voyager, which was always on the move during the 7-season TV show.
However, an immediate red flag for the game is the involvement of publisher Daedalic Entertainment. Lord of the Rings fans will certainly never forgive or forget them for the bizarre saga that was The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and hopefully, their involvement with this new Star Trek game is in a very reduced capacity, and they have truly learned the lessons of those events. Even so, fans should guard their hearts and hopes in case they get burned, though Daedelic would have to be truly foolish to spurn the fandoms of two major IPs.
There is currently no release date for Across the Unknown, but hopefully, gameXcite will be given all the time they need to finish their game and iron out any major issues.
