The Simpson family is coming back to theaters. Disney confirmed that a new, currently untitled The Simpsons film will be released on July 23, 2027. 20th Century Studios corroborated this announcement with a post on Instagram, showing an image of Homer’s hand reaching for a donut with pink icing and sprinkles shaped like the number two, reminiscent of the first film’s poster. The words “Homer’s coming back for seconds” are included in the image. The film news comes just after the premiere of the 37th season of the series.

If one wants to get technical, the series predicted the release of its second film. The Simpsons Movie (2007) was released between the 18th and 19th seasons of the show; in the opening sequence to season 19, Bart is seen writing the line, “I will not wait 20 years to make another movie” on a classroom chalkboard like it’s a punishment. The first film was released on July 27, 2007. This follow-up will be released four days earlier in the same month, putting the film just under 20 years after the release of the first.

Plot details for the new movie have not been released at this time. The Simpsons Movie (2007) focused on the outcome of Homer poisoning Springfield’s water supply in favor of free donuts and the nearly destructive power trip of EPA administrator Russ Cargill. From killing off the band Green Day in the universe to sick motorcycle tricks, the film is packed with adventure, risks, and hijinks galore. It, along with the first through the 36th season of the series, is available to stream on Disney+.
