Back in November 2022, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav said during a keynote discussion for Capital Markets’ Technology, Internet, Media and Telecommunications Conference, that under James Gunn's and Peter Safran's new DC Universe, "There’s not going to be four Batmans."

Technically, this is still true, as the upcoming sequel to The Batman will exist within the Elseworlds universe.

The official introduction of the Dark Knight into the DCU will come with The Brave and the Bold, a film directed by Andy Muschietti and with a release date TBA.

While the screenwriter for project is still to be disclosed, James Gunn has now shared some tidbits about the film's development:

“The Brave and the Bold script, I like where we are," the director of Superman said, following up on a comment from last summer, where he indicated the importance of getting this movie right:

“Batman’s my biggest issue in all of DC right now, personally. And it’s not — I’m not writing Batman, but I am working with the writer of Batman and trying to get it right, because he’s incredibly important to DC, as is Wonder Woman. So outside of the stuff that I’m doing in the projects that are actively going, our two priorities are finishing our Wonder Woman and our Batman scripts.”

The Brave and the Bold is based on Grant Morrison's 2006 to 2013 run of DC comics. Gunn describes the film as a "strange father and son story", focusing on Bruce Wayne and his son Damien Wayne (of whose existence he’s unaware), as Robin.

This setting offers a lot of room for speculation regarding the age of Bruce Wayne, hinting at an older and more father-figure-like character.

And as the film's script is still in constant flux, no actor has been cast for the DCU Batman yet, but both Muchietti and Gunn seem to have plenty of actors to choose from:

"Yeah, I mean, the actor who wants to … Listen, first of all, I can’t tell you the amount of big actors that have told me they want to be Batman," Gunn said. "I think you’d have a harder time finding actors who don’t want to be Batman. He’s the one character everyone wants to play. That’s the truth."

While The Brave and the Bold is still some years away, next year will see the DCU release of Supergirl and Clayface in theatres, before Superman returns in 2027 in Man of Tomorrow.
