Andy Serkis confirmed his return as Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman: Part II despite his commitment to The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which he’ll star in and direct. Serkis says, "I'm pretty certain it's all going to work out. Yeah, we're working on it, but I think it's all looking good." He’s not just reprising his role as Bruce Wayne’s father figure, but he also sounds very proud of the script by Matt Reeves.
Serkis says the long wait for the movie is worth it because "it is an incredible script. It really is.” Serkis believes, “It’s so emotional and very powerful, so I'm very much looking forward to it.” One of the highlights of the first movie was a heart-to-heart conversation between Pennyworth and Bruce Wayne, when Pennyworth was in his hospital bed. This is when the duo finally saw eye to eye, and Wayne opened his heart to Alfred about his grief and his fear of losing the only person he could trust, who’s been his father figure since he lost his parents. Serkis didn’t reveal anything else about the movie, but the cast has been united in praise for Reeves’ script for Part II, which begins production at the end of next month. The Batman: Part II, starring Robert Pattinson and Andy Serkis, will hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
