Since the release of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, we’ve entered into a new age of slasher films: the twisted childhood killers. Pooh, Popeye, Peter Pan, Mickey, Minnie, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and on and on have each been given their own slasher treatments as their copyrights have expired. Leading the charge in the genre is British director Rhys Frake-Waterfield, who initially brought Blood and Honey into the world. After its massive success, it spawned an entire MCU-type series, the Twisted Childhood films. So far, we’ve seen two Blood and Honey films as well as Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, and now we’ve gotten the final trailer for the latest entry: Bambi: The Reckoning.
The plot follows a mother and young son who get in a car crash and find themselves hunted by a mutant Bambi (who looks like the creature from The Ritual) who is out for bloody revenge after the death of his mother. Carnage ensues. It is one of the precursor films to the upcoming Avengers-esque culmination film Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, due out on Halloween of this year. Given that Bambi is scheduled to be in that film, it can be assumed that he’s not completely destroyed in his solo film, which may bode poorly for the mother and son.
Bambi: The Reckoning is due to be released in theaters on July 25th.
