Despite all of the focus put on Starfield before and during its launch, Bethesda largely seems to have abandoned the once-promising title. Meant to round out Bethesda’s stable of RPG experiences with the fantasy Elder Scrolls franchise and the alternative history Fallout franchise, Starfield has been broadly deemed dead on arrival by the gaming community.

It wasn’t just that the core gaming experience had issues and complaints by players early on, but the sheer void of new content and lack of details on any future roadmap for the game left many wondering how long Starfield would be supported by Xbox-owned Bethesda. In the wake of rounds of brutal cuts across Microsoft’s gaming division over the past few years, such concerns remain well-founded.

But worry not, claims Bethesda, as in a small note on the recent patch update 1.15.222, they stated, “We’re continuing work on future updates and will share more about the exciting things we have planned for Starfield in the coming months." Reassuring words, but fans have heard them before, and been disappointed. The lack of a solid timetable, of a month, or even a time of the year, shows that the company is not certain when those future plans will be revealed. Almost a year since the game’s one major DLC thus far, the future of Starfield continues to look uncertain even as, like many gaming companies before them, Bethesda assures the community they haven’t abandoned the game.
