For many people, the output of Marvel Studios has been lacking compared to earlier efforts, with many saying nothing has been on the same level of quality as Avengers: Endgame. The executives heard, changing their strategy to one that reduced the number of projects per year to the level it was previously. Now, Disney CEO Bob Iger says that Thunderbolts* proves that the change has been a good one.

During the latest investor call, Iger said, “We all know that in our zeal to flood our streaming platform with more content, that we turned to all of our creative engines, including Marvel, and had them produce a lot more. We’ve also learned over time that quantity does not necessarily beget quality. And frankly, we’ve all admitted to ourselves that we lost a little focus by making too much. By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe that will result in better quality. I think the first and best example is Thunderbolts*. I feel very good about that.”

Currently holding an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Thunderbolts* might have had less of an impact on the box office than previous Marvel films, but it is believed it will remain strong at the box office for some time. The focus on lesser-known heroes means it might not have as strong a name compared to the likes of Captain America and Thor. When this cast makes an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, however, there’s likely to be a rise in popularity for Thunderbolts*.
