While it will be a few years before we can finally watch the upcoming Mass Effect TV series, we’re still getting a few hints as to what we can expect. No concrete plot details have been revealed, but what we have been told is that the show won’t just be a rehash of the original trilogy of games. This is definitely the right move. A giant draw of the original trilogy was the choices you had to make, which would carry on between games. With so many possibilities for what the game’s story would be, having a show with a set plot is a mistake, as no matter what they chose, most players haven’t played it that way.

Much like the upcoming Mass Effect 5, the show will be set in the future, following the events of the original trilogy. How far remains to be seen, but if it’s set in Citadel space a short time after the events of the games, Shepard and his/her choices regarding the Reapers will have to at least be acknowledged. Most players seem to go with the “destroy” ending, as it aligns most with Shepard, so it’s probable that if Shepard’s story is touched on, that’s the ending that they’ll go with.

So far, everything is speculation. It will be Q4 of 2026 before the series even starts production, so we’ve got a long way to go. As fans, we can just hope that the universe of Mass Effect is done justice.
