A Star Wars project that has gained a lot of fan attention over the last few months is that of The Hunt for Ben Solo. Concepted by Adam Driver and planned to be developed by Steven Soderbergh, Driver revealed details of it to the public in October. Since then, fans have been wild in wanting to see it become a reality. Some speculated that Daisy Ridley, co-star of the sequel trilogy alongside Driver, would also have featured in the film. While at an event advertising Ridley’s latest film, We Bury The Dead, IGN’s Tara Bennett spoke to her about the reveal of The Hunt For Ben Solo.
Ridley revealed that she “knew a piece of it. I heard rumblings. I have lots of friends who are crew, so things always travel like that. But, whoa! When the story came out, no, I was like, ‘Oh, my God!’” She was surprised that it was Driver who revealed the project, since he is usually tight-lipped about anything. Calling it “the big surprise of the year.” She also reflected on the fan reaction to the announcement, saying, “I love when there is a collective of positivity. The way the internet seems to have rallied to try and get it to happen.”

In continuing that reflection, she added, “Obviously, everyone knows he was a very popular character, but it was also lovely to think, ‘Wow, people really, really care and want this.’ I just… I like it. I like when people join forces – excuse the pun – from all around the world, all different sorts of people. I just love that the Star Wars fandom is such a huge and gorgeous array of different points of view and different people, and the fact that everyone is really behind this thing, I think, is just sort of lovely, in a time that is so f***ing nuts for probably every single person on this Earth.”
Since Ridley has her own Star Wars film currently in development, Bennett asked her opinion on how the reaction to The Hunt For Ben Solo has made her feel about getting it out to the world. She has a history now, with non-Star Wars projects, and so “I’ve learned how the reality of getting any film made is massive. The hurdles are vast… But with this, particularly, I know that incredible voices and creatives are part of it, and I know the wait will be worth it.”
